Kowalski’s Pickles

I never thought I’d be saying this, but I’m becoming better known for my pickles than I am for my novels–at least locally.

Here’s a great piece by Janice Middleton in the Halifax Chronicle-Herald. It’s about the pickles I’ve been making for the past decade or so in my own kitchen, and which I recently expanded to a commercial level.

The article makes much of the fact that this recipe was my great-grandmother’s. In fact, it’s very similar to a recipe she used. But I also have to give credit to my neighbor, Jack McNealy, who got me back on the pickle train several years ago, and whose own pickles are pretty damn good. In fact, his pickles have taken first prize at the Bridgewater (Nova Scotia) Exhibition… twice, if I’m not mistaken.
